Gripfast is proud to have successfully delivered the new Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church (VMCOC) in Calamvale, a landmark project that brings together modern craftsmanship, architectural excellence, and deep cultural heritage. Acting as Project Manager and Superintendent on behalf of the VMCOC, Gripfast oversaw the project’s journey from construction through to completion, ensuring that every stage met the highest standards of design, construction, and community expectation.
Delivered under a Design and Construct (D&C) Contract, with IQ Construct engaged as the builder, this impressive two-storey facility stands as a striking new addition to Brisbane’s southside. The architecturally designed church features precast arched concrete tilt panels and three iconic domes that form both the visual and spiritual centrepiece of the development. These domes, symbolic of the Coptic Orthodox faith, are a true testament to precision, craftsmanship, and the seamless integration of traditional design within a contemporary construction framework.
Gripfast worked collaboratively with the client, design consultants, and IQ Construct to ensure that the project vision was realised — a place of worship that embodies the rich spiritual and cultural identity of the Coptic Orthodox community while incorporating modern building technologies and finishes. The project’s success reflects a balance between architectural ambition and practical delivery, achieved through clear communication, proactive management, and rigorous attention to detail at every stage.
Beyond the church building itself, the project included comprehensive site works such as new landscaping, roadworks, car parking facilities, and access ramps, creating a fully integrated and accessible environment. The surrounding landscaped areas provide calm, reflective spaces for congregation and community gatherings, while the upgraded infrastructure enhances functionality and accessibility for all visitors.
Throughout the project, Gripfast ensured that stakeholder expectations were aligned, risks were effectively managed, and quality outcomes were maintained across design and construction phases. Our team’s commitment to collaboration and excellence enabled a smooth delivery process, culminating in a finished product that exceeds expectations both aesthetically and functionally.
The completion of the Virgin Mary Coptic Orthodox Church marks an important milestone for the Coptic community in Queensland — a modern, enduring, and spiritually significant landmark that will serve future generations. For Gripfast, it stands as another example of our capability in managing complex, design-driven projects that demand technical precision, cultural sensitivity, and strong leadership from start to finish.
